Review: The Social Dilemma

Netflix‘s new documentary is a startling exposé of the dangers of the internet, particularly social media. Director Jeff Orlowski works together with a group of experts to reveal the intrinsically predatory nature of our newest technologies. These experts are primarily members of the tech industry, ranging from Tristan Harris, who was a Design Ethicist at Google, to Tim Kendall, Facebook’s former Director of Monetization. Their concerns and interviews are voiced against the backdrop of a dramatized family that is struggling to deal with their technology addictions.

What You Need to Know About the 2020 US Election

It’s the 3rd of November, and millions of Americans are lining up to vote in the midst of a global pandemic and escalating racial unrest. Bachelor Thesis: What is Empathy?

In the last years, empathy has once again become a topic of debate among philosophers. However, its meaning and scope varies greatly between authors and even individual texts, making a consolidated overview of empathy difficult. In this paper, we will review the meaning of empathy, from its original etymology to its modern usages. Following this, we will consider what empathy is: a tool, a feeling or mood, a partially inherited sense of social understanding, or something else entirely. As we move through the “areas” where empathy is found and discussed, we will compare it to similar concepts such as emotional contagion and sympathy.

Bachelorarbeit: Was ist Leben?
